Creative Wall Techniques
All this week I will be sharing with you creative design ideas and beautiful pictures that illustrate well designed areas for your walls in any space in your home. Get creative and have fun! Please leave a comment and email me your decorating questions at natalieboman@gmail.com. Thanks again for visiting and enjoy your day!
What a statement! I love the two tone colors and the simplicity of this design. The pictures of the close line clothes are a vinyl silhouette. Check out uppercase living.com for vinyl sayings and wall designs.

This wall design is a project that you could could do with your kids! get out the tracing numbers and some paint and go to work!

Don't forget about handmade quilts or antiques these too can be displayed on a wall to add texture and warmth to any space not to mention a conversation piece!

My eye is drawn to this wall hangings. I love that is monochromatic and it has added a piece of clothing in the mix to keep things interesting, add texture and to keep the smaller pictures in balance. Nice!

This is the creative picture of the day! who would have thought to use your old skate boards as a shelf. This opens the door of possibilities that can be displayed on a wall to add a focal point and uniqueness!

This is a simple yet creative way to display your favorite fabrics as a wall design. This technique would be a simple and inexpensive way to decorate a wall. I think I might use this my self in my craft room as you know I love Fabric!.

This is a good design. Good use of color, texture and scale. I like that this small space is decorated around a theme-travel which is a good technique if you are unsure what accessories to buy for a specific room go with a theme that will narrow your search and keep your room in harmony.

For those that love color this could be your look. I enjoy the freshness of color and the use of geometric shapes and I guess you could way that is the theme of this room.

Thanks to Martha Stewart for this creative idea...a clock built right on the wall. You can check out Martha Stewart.com under projects for the how to on this idea. Got to love Martha!

This wins the prize for the most creative! I love the use of these baskets who would have guessed that you could feel up an entire wall with natural made baskets. I think that the only way that this design works is with the use of color, shape and of course all the same texture. I might just be heading down to my work room to pull out my old baskets this reminds me of the good ole days of retail design we also use this technique often.

Monthly theme Creative Wall Designs.
Today I will be talking about creative ways to display mirrors using the techniques that I have previously mentioned. I hope that I will be able to give you some new and simple ways to design your walls. Thanks for visiting! Natalie
This picture has a lot going on but it achieves balance by the use of style, color and texture. If you are using more than one picture and you have many accessories that you are needing to display add a mirror into a grouping of pictures. This decorating tip is important because it gives the eye a chance to rest and will help achieve harmony.

I love the use of this mirror!. The mirror placement in this room is to add height, dimension and to create a focal point which highlights the chandelier. This design technique is a bit pricey to achieve some other options are; antique door or window and check resources to add mirror in panels, Bathroom mirror and add crown molding or use technique below with several middle size mirrors.

This grouping is asymmetrical but it achieves balance by use of the same color and style in the mirrors and the accessories. This would be a great idea for smaller spaces that are in need of some illusion of height.

Whether it is a nook, entrance, bathroom or bedroom using mirrors on walls is a great way to add dimension and to make a space look a bit grander. I like this picture because it accomplishes three things; multiple pictures in different colors and styles, a mirror which helps add a focal point and third keeps the wall very symmetrical. Great arrangement!

Today's theme is that of the use of chairs as wall decor. Email me your questions at natalieboman@gmail.com thanks and get creating!
I suppose the theme of the day is the display of unique chairs. This picture is a creative way to accomplish design in a small space. This vignette has a lot going on but is put together very well I think that is accomplished by the soft color pallet.
This picture is yet another beautiful way of displaying art which is symmetrical a very pleasing look.

This picture brought me back to my days of retail design. I would often hang small chairs on walls to fill large spaces or if we were tight on floor space.

This months theme is Creative Wall Designs
This week I will be talking about Picture Wall Designs hopefully this will answer some of the many questions that I get in regards to family and artistic photos and how to place them on a wall. Email me your questions at natalieboman@gmail.com thanks and get creating!
If you have ever asked yourself how much room should there be between pictures here is an easy way to check..the hand test. I use this every time when hanging pictures also use your eye as to the placement on the wall. Pictures typically are placed at eye level (avarage heighth 5'6")or "58 inches from the floor.

This wall hanging is very pleasing to the eye working horizontally, as on a sofa wall or a hall entrance, prints grouped in odd numbers are visually balanced, giving volume without crowding.

There are terms we decorators use everyday that of Symmertrical which is the mirror image.
If you have a selection of pictures that are similar in subject matter, size and framing, consider a symmetrical grouping to create balance. Symmetrical collections are often used to create the popular gallery effects, above large pieces of furniture, such as sofas and above mantles

This grouping is Asymmetrical this effect is a bit harder to achieve it takes some patience, the right art work, and a good eye. I like working assymetricaly when I have multiple prints of various colors and sizes and have a large wall to work with. This grouping works best if you have a selection of dissimilar pictures with at least one common element, such as subject matter, use an asymmetrical grouping for a more organic balance.
If you would like to read more on this subject check out one of my favorite sites Decorating Digest for many other ideas on hanging pictures and decorative wall techniques.

Creative Wall Techniques
Whether it is a solid color, a decorative technique or a mural. A decorative wall is an economical way to redecorate a room. By adding a touch of color on a wall it can change the mood, add a focal point, highlight or diminish an architectural detail and it will make your soul and room come a live! If you should need help getting started email me your questions at natalieboman@gmail.com thanks and get creating!
This is another painted wall technique and I have to say it was the hardest one I have ever painted! It took me two weeks to paint and three times to get the diamonds straight but very rewarding once I was done because I realized I did know how to use math skills. Style: Vintage Shabby Chic Color: Pink and White Highlights: Crown window treatment (still sewing), favorite find was the vintage hat lamp, antique headboard and Bedding (not shown) Quilts Etc. and antique frames at TJ Maxx.

I have a love and a true passion for the arts and its many forms. This is how it all began…Interior Design (my degree), textiles (I especially love fabric and of course my eye is always drawn to polka dots), floor plan (retail accessory and furniture designer), lighting design (my current job), party and event planning (my true obsession), owner and director of Center Stage Studios (children's singing, dancing, and performing group, and my expensive hobby as my husband would put it), wood projects, painting of any sort, paper projects, fabric designs including doll making, making the latest hair accessory, and an advisor on the Draper Youth Council (which makes me feel like a teenager again, but reminds me I am getting older). Why the title “Creative Dot Mom?” I am always drawn to polka dots in whatever design I am working on. Why? Maybe because they are timeless, simple, clean, fun, go well with other designs, and make me smile as I try in some way to become the perfect polka dot. Well, I hope that through my blog you will smile, laugh out loud, be inspired, and find joy in this endless journey of blogging.
